  1. SET UP THE SHOT

Tips for Getting a Good Photo of Yourself

Iโ€™ve learned (through many bad pictures) that it doesnโ€™t really work to just hand someone your phone and ask โ€œcan you take a picture of me?โ€

Now, Iโ€™ll keep an eye out for good backgrounds or framing and then set up the shot on my phone. That way, youโ€™ll have a little more control over the final photo.

Once you have your set up, call over the Instagram Husband (or friend!) and tell them exactly where to stand to hold the phone in place while they take the shot.

Then run into position and start posing! It makes the whole process go faster for everyone when you tell them what you want from the beginning.

2. TAKE MORE THAN ONE

Tips for Taking a Photo

Also, make sure to tell them to take more than one!! This doesnโ€™t come naturally to some people, but if you tell them to take a bunch youโ€™ll have a lot more options to choose from and a better chance at a good pic.

3. MOVE AROUND

If you ask your Instagram Husband to take a bunch of photos, and then you stay still as a statue, that kinda defeats the purpose. Every pic is gonna look exactly the same ๐Ÿ™„

It might feel a little weird at first, but try some movement while theyโ€™re taking the pics. It doesnโ€™t have to be anything crazy, try looking from side to side, laughing, or playing with your hairโ€ฆ subtle movements are fine!

4. CAMERA SHY CURE

Are you camera shy?? I am too ๐Ÿ™ˆ I feel so much more comfortable behind the camera rather than in front of it!

One of the easiest tricks is to ask your Instagram Husband to take a pic and then have your back facing the camera.

You donโ€™t have to face the camera, so itโ€™s a little less intimidating but you still get a good photo of the scene with you in it. I do this a lot when traveling! (Especially when I donโ€™t have any makeup on lol)

5. SELF TIMER

Instagram Tips

No Instagram Husband? No problem! I sometimes use the self-timer on my iPhone camera to take pics.

Click the little stopwatch icon at the top right of your camera app. The default is โ€œOffโ€ but you can set the timer to 3 seconds or 10 seconds.

For this pic, I propped my phone up and framed the shot and then set the timer for 10 seconds. While the timer was counting down, I ran to the side of the pool.

It may take a couple tries, but this is a great option if thereโ€™s no one else around to ask.

6. THE EDIT

Sometimes you can upgrade a meh photo with a great edit!. This pic was a little dark and grey to start with, but I brightened it up and added a little saturation. It makes such a difference!

I used my step-by-step editing process that I shared in this photo editing Guide! If youโ€™re interested in learning photography basics and how to edit photos on your phone, this guide is perfect for you!
